Destination Wedding Diary: Udaipur

Udaipur weddings are something else entirely. Palace venues, lake views, golden-hour light that photographers dream about — and humidity that will test every product in your kit. Here's what it took to pull off a four-ceremony wedding there last season.

The kit travels differently

For destination work I travel with a core kit that's been refined over fifty-plus destination weddings. Nothing in checked luggage that can't be replaced. Temperature-sensitive products travel in my cabin bag. I arrive at least a day before the first ceremony to acclimate — to the light, the hotel air conditioning (which dries skin out dramatically), and the schedule as it's actually playing out on the ground, not on paper.

Udaipur is warm. The products need to know this.

Late-season Udaipur carries humidity that sits differently from Delhi heat. Products that hold beautifully in an air-conditioned Delhi farmhouse behave differently by a lakeside courtyard in the evening. We adjust — longwear formulas, less cream product on the eyes, heavier setting — and we test on the bride's skin the evening before, not the morning of.

Four ceremonies, four different briefs

Mehendi was soft and dewy — the bride wanted to look natural, un-done. Haldi was minimal by design. The wedding itself was full bridal — heavy eye, deep lip, structured base. Reception was glamour: sharper contour, lighter base, the kind of look that photographs well under white event lighting at midnight.

Each look had its own brief, its own products, its own timeline. Coordinating four looks across three days is logistics as much as artistry.

The light at Lake Pichola is extraordinary

I've worked in a lot of beautiful places but evening light off a Rajasthani lake does something remarkable to warm-toned makeup. The bride was glowing from the moment we stepped outside. Some of that was skill. A lot of it was just where we were.

What I bring home from every destination wedding

The logistics of destination work are demanding — but watching a bride see herself for the first time, in that light, in that place, never gets old. It's why this work matters.

If you're planning a destination wedding and need a makeup artist who travels, let's talk. We've worked across Rajasthan, Himachal, Goa, and abroad.
